I have been using FaceBook more recently. But I have also been quiet because we lost our old lady cat, Bruegel Passolini. She was my best buddy for sixteen years. She taught her brother Banjo how to be a kitty (when he thought he was a puppy). She helped me weather two breakups and multiple moves. She helped win over her Daddy Trent. She was the best cat ever. Here are some pictures for those of you not on Facebook:

It's a collection of my short stories (some published elsewhere). Fifteen stories mostly about family and coming of age. Young adults contemplate fleeing their home towns, going to college, leaving their parents. Relationships begin and end. There's a loss of virginity in there, some science fiction satire, and a whole lot of wondering what it's all about.
And yes, I am still working on the young adult novel...and wondering if the two children's novels in my files might need to go meet a few more publishers.
I am a book buyer. I usually buy used unless it's a must have (New Sheri Tepper or Robert McCammon mystery)...I love pouring through the shelves of a used book store. Also, as a reviewer for Kirkus, Library Journal, and VOYA I get a lot of freebies in the mail. Books tend to pile up. I am out of space on my "To Read" shelves.
So WHY!?! can't I find anything I want to read?
When I bought these books piled next to my bed, I was excited about them. Now I feel like I just can't get into them. I got two very interesting looking books for Christmas which I am excited about...but I want to save them...("Buddha" by Chopra & Kevin Smith's journal).
I tried to read a thriller by F Paul Wilson (old one "Deep as the Marrow") and put it down. (Sorry Francis--still love Jack, but this one didn't catch me).
Today, Trent asked me how many of those books next to the bed I had read & I had to say, "none." I need a reading vacation without video games or interior design projects...yeah, right!
Sigh. What AM I complaining about? I guess, I am complaining about an abundance of choices. That's nice.
Those Christmas books are looking reeeally interesting. Or maybe one of those old Hugh B. Cave books...
:-)
Part of my new job which I love is being able to make booklists for displays here at the main library. I was drafted to do a Marilyn Monroe list that was fun. Then I did a Buddhist booklist to go with my Buddhist display (67 books circulated off the display! Woo hoo!). Then I did a science fiction booklist to go with an SF display (34 books circed off of that one)--but the display was quite a hit: I had quotes from science fiction and fantasy series in little flip folders. (Quote: "Did IQs drop sharply while I was away?" Answer: "Aliens").
In November, I'm doing two displays "There's a Book About WHAT?!" Disgusting and surprising books...and "Best Books Ever Written according to me." The best books comes with an illustrated booklist. I wanted a cartoon version of me for the list...and here's what I made online:
I think the resemblance is amazing :-)
Just posting. A wonderfully nothing day.
Well, OK...so I successfully installed a new deadbolt on our front door despite several problems. Yeah me! I did NOT inherit my father's handy-man genes...or my mother's handy-woman genes (I think she might have more power tools than Dad). Instead I got a love of potato chips and books from Dad and an absolute stubbroness from Mom--yeah, those are on the same allele! ;-) SO when i handy-man out, I like to celebrate.
I installed a new light switch last year I'm still talking about it (<--see?)
Here's what I'm reading:
Have thee a pleasant day!
